Esperanza de Libertad's
short-term goal is to raise money to buy land in Bolivia.
We plan on purchasing land right at the doorway to
the rainforest, which is ground zero for the illegal
animal trade. We hope to stop as much animal trafficking
as we can in that area so fewer animals will be taken
from the wild. We hope to purchase as much land as
possible in the form of a land trust (meaning that,
though we may not use all the land for our sanctuary,
it will be spared from the enormous amount of logging
and meat production that is destroying it at an alarming
rate). Once enough money is raised, land is purchased,
and construction is completed, we have two long-term
goals.
Esperanza de Libertad's Rehabilitation
and Release Project:
The primary goal for
Esperanza de Libertad's rehabilitation and release
project is to rescue Bolivian animals that have not
lived long in captivity and work with them until they
can be released back into their jungle home. We plan
on accepting all animals that are candidates for rehabilitation.
We will work on their rehabilitation and release them
back into the jungles of Bolivia.
Esperanza de Libertad's Sanctuary
Project:
The primary goal for
Esperanza de Libertad's Sanctuary Project is to provide
a place to live for captive primates who cannot be
released back into the wild. They will be cared for
in their natural habitat, surrounded by other members
of their species, and free from abuse for the rest
of their lives. We hope to focus our long-term efforts
on all Bolivian monkey species.
Our long-term goal
is to work with the many monkeys raised or bred in
captivity. There are monkeys in zoos and circuses
throughout the world that are closing down, there
are monkeys that have been used in animal experimentation
and are no longer "needed" by scientists, there are
monkeys that have been illegally trafficked out of
South America being raised as pets. Most of these
monkeys' roots can be traced back to these same jungles
of South America. Though we understand that they can't
be thrown into the foreign world of the jungle, we
hope that they can live out the remainder of there
lives in a sanctuary built around the very same trees
their grandparents once swung from.
We hope to use the
international community to raise funding. We believe
it is essential to have as many sanctuaries and animal
groups spread throughout Bolivia, and the world, as
possible.
